A simple lighting setup
You do not need studio gear knowledge to light a scene well. Three lights, placed deliberately, beat ten placed randomly.
Key, fill, rim
Key light does the main work from the front-side. Fill softens shadows from the opposite side. Rim separates the subject from the background. Adjust intensity, not count, until it looks right.
One honest habit
Turn the lights off one at a time. If removing one changes nothing, it was doing nothing.
